A GROUP of three savvy schoolgirls from Colchester are raising money for one of their football team members who has alopecia.

Three girls from Colchester City Ladies under 13’s football team have devised some creative ways to raise funds for their fellow teammate, following her alopecia diagnosis 18 months ago.

Daisy-Mae Lee, 13, Kate Wall-Hardern, 13 and Erin Graves, 12, all attend the Gilberd School in Colchester.

As part of their school awards, the trio were tasked with engaging with their community and raising funds for a good cause.

After speaking with their parents, the girls decided they would come up with some innovative ways to raise funds for Alopecia UK, following their teammate's diagnosis.

The girls decided on several ways in which they could raise funds, with a few fun activities planned over the following weeks.

Firstly, the girls have organised a charity bake sale after their football match, which will be held this Sunday.

The bake sale hopes to provide a well-earned treat for players, their families and anyone else who is passing through the field.

Daisy-Mae has decided on making chocolate brownies for the cause, with Kate tasked with creating gluten free treats for punters to enjoy, and Erin making cupcakes.

The Boxted Runners group will also make an appearance on the day, helping out where they can and showing support for the kind-hearted youngsters.

The girls have also planned a car boot sale to raise further funds, where, with the help of their parents, they will sell unwanted homewares to raise money for Alopecia UK.

The trio then plan to host a sponsored bike ride at the Northern Gateway’s new cycle track, tackling a 5-mile cycle to raise further funds, in a safe environment.

Daisy-Mae’s mum, Clare Lee, said: “I’m incredibly proud of all three of them. They are registered charity champs for Alopecia UK, with official tubs, stickers and wristbands to share.

“For them to do such a thing is fantastic. It is very hard to motivate kids and teenagers to get off of their phones these days, so I am so proud of all three of them.”
