Emergency services descended on a Colchester road last night after reports of a knife-wielding man making threats.
The city's policing team were called to a disturbance in the Victoria Road area on Friday night following reports of a man armed with two knives making threats to harm others.
Police officers secured the scene and were supported by firefighters and ambulance crews as the man barricaded himself on a second storey balcony.

After a 40 minute stand-off, police say they built up a "sufficient rapport" with the man and convinced him to surrender to them.
Officers then recovered a number of knives from the scene.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "The male been taken to hospital for treatment for a number of injuries believed to be self-inflicted and has been arrested [on suspicion of] a number of criminal offences, the circumstances of which will be subjected to further investigation.
