RICHIE Wellens declared he was happy with a point after seeing his Leyton Orient side surrender a two-goal lead late on to draw 2-2 with Colchester United.

The O's looked on course to pick up another victory in their quest to lift the League Two title, thanks to goals either side of half-time from former U's midfielder George Moncur and Ruel Sotiriou.

However, Connor Hall headed Colchester back into the game in the 89th minute from Matt Jay's corner, before Noah Chilvers' wonder strike in stoppage-time rescued the visitors a deserved point, at Brisbane Road.

O's boss Wellens admits he was disappointed with the manner of the two late goals conceded by his side, who are six points clear at the top of the table and now eight games unbeaten.

Wellens said: "I think if you look at the whole game, I'm quite happy with a point because we didn't play well from the first minute.

Gazette:

"We were off it but I think the biggest disappointment was our body language.

"We were winning 2-0 with almost the 90 minutes up and we didn't organise from a set play.

"We were really slow; the ball's been out of play for 20 seconds and you're playing against a club who are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the league.

"They sprint to take the corner and we're not marking well and we allow someone to get across the front of us.

"For the second goal, we kick it down the middle of the pitch and we've got no physical presence there, against three centre-backs.

"We then pick up the second ball where we can chest it and play or put it in an area where they can't put it straight back on us because the pitch is poor, the pitch is really difficult.

Gazette:

"We're having a go at players sometimes to be better but it's a really difficult pitch to play on, really boggy.

"Sometimes it bounces clear but a lot of the time, it bounces...just takes the weight out of it.

"We then play it long and one of my centre-backs vacates his area, they exploit that.

"Chilvers has got the ball and it's a good finish but slow down and be patient - let him pass it outside to a right wing-back and if he does that, we win the game.

"But we get too excited, we over commit, he chops back inside and when he does that, it's difficult for Vigs (Lawrence Vigouroux) because he's going to go left or right and they're good players.

Gazette:

"We didn't play well.

"I'm always performance based and I'm a realist and when we play well, I'll tell you that we played well but we didn't play well today.

"On the whole, I'm happy with the point, because we didn't play well.

"There were too many bad decisions, from players that are experienced and know the game and that's fine; we've had two weeks off and probably we felt that little bit of legginess and were not quite our sharpest.

"We looked tired and when we're 2-0 up, I want to try and get some control of the game but instead, it's like a game of basketball which we don't need when we're 2-0 up.

"I thought the subs that came on would give us more legs, more energy but it's had an adverse effect, in our performance."
