A TRAFFIC light was left scattered across the road after a collision between two vehicles in Colchester.

Police officers were called to Brook Street shortly before 5pm on Monday to reports of the collision.

A traffic light in East Street had been smashed into during the collison and was seen in bits across the road.

An eyewitness who was on his way to Leisure World told the Gazette he saw a “smashed up” BMW at the scene at about 5.40pm.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “We were called to Brook Street shortly before 5pm yesterday following reports of a collision involving two vehicles, where neither stopped at the scene.

“A lamppost was damaged and this matter has been reported to Highways.”

The incident caused traffic in East Hill and Brook Street to heavily backlog on Monday evening.

Cowdray Avenue all the way back to Ipswich Road also saw severe delays.
