BAKERY chain Greggs has applied to put up signs at its latest shop in Colchester.

The Northern Gateway site is set to be the brand's seventh store.

Construction is underway for the Northern Gateway Leisure Park and it is due to open later this year.

Plans for thescheme were first mooted in 2015 and were given permission in December 2020.

The multi-million pound leisure park will have a Cineworld, Travelodge with 90 rooms, while restaurants Wendy’s and Greggs will now each boast a drive-thru on the site.

Greggs has applied to Colchester Council for four fascia signs for the new drive-thru.

Images in the planning application show the building will the boast the brand's blue and orange branding.

Colchester Council will have the final say on the plans.

Last year Colchester Council approved plans for six signs and drive-thru information at the site.

The signs bid comes after the brand has been given the green light to put up signs at 40 Culver Street West.

The building was previously used by JD Sports which is now based in Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

Greggs had applied to Colchester Council to put up four fascia signs, one projecting sign and some window vinyl graphics.

Colchester Council has given the bid the green light.

The new shop will become the sixth the brand has in the city.

It already has shops in High Street, Long Wyre Street, St Christopher Road, Stane Park and at Stanway Retail Park.

The news comes as a number of new cafes and eateries have been unveiled as opening in the city centre.

This inlcudes Root and Groves, Brick Lane Bagel.Co, Smacks Hamburgers, Trattoria Cavalli and Safari Coffee House.
