PETROL prices across Colchester have continued their steady and welcome fall in recent weeks.

Diesel, however, remains much more expensive as countries continue to impose sanctions on Russian fuel imports.

A rundown of petrol and diesel prices will give you an idea of where to target – and where to avoid – as you look to fill up the tank over the course of the week.

1st – Sainsbury’s (Stanway): 144.9p per litre.

2nd – BP (Mersea Road) and Co-Op (Peartree Road): 145.9p per litre

Overall price of 40-litre tank: £58.36

4th – Asda (Turner Road): 146.7p per litre

Overall price of 40-litre tank: £58.68

5th – Tesco (Highwoods and Hythe): 146.9p per litre

Overall price of 40-litre tank: £58.76

7th – BP (Ipswich Road and London Road): 148.9p per litre

Diesel, predictably, remains much more expensive than petrol, and prices last summer rose as high as £1.99 per litre on average.

Here is how diesel prices (which are on average 20p higher than petrol) are looking this week.

1st – Sainsbury’s (Stanway): 164.9p per litre.
