A VIGIL reflecting on the loss of a young transgender girl who was tragically killed is set to be held outside a Colchester art gallery.

Brianna Ghey was fatally stabbed on February 11 in a park in Warrington before being found by members of the public lying wounded on a path.

Since then a boy and girl, both aged 15, have been charged with the murder of the 16-year-old schoolgirl and are set to go on trial in July.

The news of Brianna’s death has sent shockwaves across the country and seen poignant gatherings held in her memory.

Residents in Colchester are now also set to honour the youngster by taking part in an hour-long candlelit vigil.

The event, organised by Reggie Roberts, will take place at Firstsite, in Lewis Gardens, at 6pm this Saturday.

A spokesman for the vigil said: “[This is] a vigil to commemorate and reflect on the loss of Brianna Ghey.

“Bring flowers or electric candles but there are no expectations or requirements. [This is] an invitation to join together and hold hands in opposing prejudice and hate.”

Colchester’s forthcoming tribute to Brianna, described as "beautiful, witty, and hilarious", follows similar events in Southend and Basildon.
