A PLAY area in a small Colchester village is set to be expanded and upgraded in celebration of it reaching an impressive milestone.

Langham Recreation Ground will undergo a  four-week make-over to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

The news of the renovation has been confirmed by Langham Parish Council which has advised the site will be closed while the works are carried out.

The authority decided to rejuvenate the area after conducting a survey which asked residents to share their views and experiences of the recreation ground.

One of the results of the survey revealed 87 per cent of 131 people said they would not like the play to remain unchanged.

A spokesman for the authority said: “We are delighted we are able to do this in what is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Langham Recreation Ground.

“It is anticipated this will take roughly four weeks, albeit completion will be weather dependent.

“We would request access to the double gates near the play area is kept clear as all traffic in and out will be using this gateway.

“Deliveries and working schedules will be kept to sensible hours to mitigate disruption to nearby residents.”
