UPDATE: A man has been taken to hospital after being cut free from a vehicle by firefighters
A CRASH in Colchester has resulted in traffic coming to a standstill, with motorists facing lengthy delays.
Colchester Road, just off of Clingoe Hill and near the University of Essex, has become blocked resulting in queues of drivers.
Essex Police have said a two-vehicle smash has occurred at the junction with Boundary Road and Wivenhoe Road.
A police spokesman said: "We were informed of the incident by colleagues in the ambulance service shortly after 10am this morning.
"Emergency services and highways workers remain at the scene. We would urge motorists to find alternative routes."
Bosses at the University of Essex have now opened a barrier at their Colchester campus to allow traffic to leave the area.
