TRAIN passengers in Essex are being advised against travelling and warned of disruption to services as rail workers prepare to go on strike once more.

Greater Anglia will be running a limited timetable on February 1 and 3 in response to members of the train drivers’ union ASLEF and the RMT union voting to down tools.

The workers have decided to take part in another strike as part of an ongoing and unresolved dispute over pay, compulsory redundancies and job security.

As a result of the demonstrations, Greater Anglia services will be severely affected and passengers are being urged to avoid travelling where possible.

Trains will still run – albeit less frequently - between Colchester and London Liverpool Street, but there will be no services departing stations in the likes of Clacton.

Services which do go ahead are expected to start from 7.30am onwards, operating only to an hourly frequency, with all last trains completing journeys earlier than usual.

Some of the first scheduled trains on the days after the strike will also start later than normal and no rail replacement buses will be in operation.

Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director said: “We are very sorry that once again our customers will be disrupted by strikes.”

Anyone who has pre-booked tickets to travel on strike days can change them, use them to travel on either the day before or up to two days later, or apply for a refund.
