THE Mercury Theatre is set to celebrate two comedic legends in an acclaimed production direct from the West End.

A five-star production, which details the remarkable story of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel, will be shown at the Mercury, following an enormously successful stint in London’s West End.

Inspired by real life events, intertwined with exciting reimagining, Charlie and Stan will bring the story of the greatest comedy double act that nearly was.

Charlie and Stan is a homage to two comedic giants, looking at the two year period they spent touring together before either became famous.

The show will also include an original piano score composed by Mercury Award nominee Zoe Rahman which will be played live each night.

Referring to the show, organisers said: “This is no nostalgic bio-drama but a celebration of two men who changed the world of comedy forever.”

The cast will include Danielle Bird, who starred in the Mercury’s 2022 production of The Comedy of Errors, who will be joined by Doctor Who and Eastenders star, Sara Alexander.

Nick Haverson, of Ashes to Ashes and New Tricks, will also star alongside Jerone Marsh-Reid, of Marvellous.

All performances are accessible to disabled and deaf audiences, as the story is told using physical theatre, without words.

The story will be told in the style of a silent movie, featuring occasional intertitles, which will help tell the story of the two comedic legends.

The theatre is renowned for its talent development programme, which seeks out fresh voices and stories, hoping to encourage people to see through the eyes of others.

The Mercury also hosts a participation programme which aims to connect communities and celebrate budding creative potential by providing people with ever yday opportunities to be artistic and innovative.

Following a major renovation in 2021, the Mercury was awarded a BREEAM very good certificate, placing it in the top 25 per cent of public buildings in the UK for environmental standards.

Charlie and Stan will be played at the Mercury Theatre from Tuesday February 7 until Saturday February 11. Tickets are available at bit.ly/3ZXkiNS.
