Team news

Al-Amin Kazeem is hoping for a recall after the left wing-back was rested for the U's victory at the Crown Oil Arena.

Colchester will check on the fitness of Emyr Huws and Kwesi Appiah, ahead of the clash with Gills.

Predicted line-ups

Colchester: O'Hara, Tchamadeu, Chambers, Smith, Dallison, Wood, Skuse, Ashley, Chilvers, Tovide, Akinde

Gillingham: Morris, Tutonda, McKenzie, Wright, Ehmer, Dieng, MacDonald, Williams, Jefferies, Hawkins, Nichols

Colchester head coach Matt Bloomfield on Gillingham game:

“Both clubs have strengthened in the transfer window, so it could be a slightly different game to the last one, albeit only a few weeks ago.

“I really respect Neil Harris and the job that he’s done throughout his managerial career.

“He’s a great guy and we know that they’re a team to be feared and a team to be really respected.

“They’ve made some really good signings off the back of a good 2-0 win against Hartlepool last week.

“We know what to expect; we’ve done our research as we always do and worked diligently during the week to put a plan in place for the game.”

Opposition view

Gillingham boss Neil Harris told the club's website:

“I expect a competitive game. Our opponents are a big side, aggressive, play forward, run forward, do the basics really well, they’ve got some quality and experience.

“We have to start well on Saturday and force the issue. I want a strong and positive performance.”

Key battle

John Akinde has been in good form for Colchester of late.

The experienced striker faces his old club Gillingham, for whom ex-Us defender Will Wright will be doing his best to keep Akinde at bay.
