A MUSICIAN inspired to pursue his dream after seeing Bruno Mars perform Super Bowl’s famous halftime show has just had his song played on a hit television show.

Charlie Baker, 22, a singer-songwriter from Colchester, co-wrote the “flirtatious” You Want Me with his close friend George Daniel.

Lyrically the feel-good track focuses on a summer romance between two people who initially find it difficult to admit their feelings and navigate their new-found love.

After completing the track Charlie sent it to ITV producers, who eventually decided to feature it the hugely popular reality show Love Island.

He said: “We were told only 15 minutes before it aired so I had to rush back as quick as I could to catch it – it was very exciting though.

“It was a surreal feeling hearing my song on Love Island seeing as I had only been releasing a music for a year it was an incredible achievement.

“From having to start up from the ground singing-wise to then hearing your voice on national television was crazy.

“It definitely took a few days to sink in but was exciting as it shows if you set your mind to it anything is possible.”

Charlie first started playing the guitar as a teenager before being excited by the challenge of creating his own melodies and lyrics.

He then watched a clip of popstar Bruno Mars performing at the Super Bowl half time show which had a life-changing impact.

“I’m a confident person on stage but my singing ability is something I was worried about so it was just a case of continually practicing and improving,” said Charlie.

“The goal has been clear from the moment I knew this is what I wanted to pursue, and it’s that is play on a global stage and share my music with millions.

“The absolute dream is to create music which lives on for generations and be able to travel around the world sharing my music and performing.

“But essentially it all just comes down to being able to do something I love every day and sharing that passion with everyone around me.

“Life’s too short to not be pursuing something you love.”
