A SMART student scientist has made his Colchester teachers “extremely proud” after winning a prestigious prize in recognition of his “incredible achievements”.
Nathan Butcher, who previously attended Colchester Sixth Form College, in North Hill, has received an A-Level Award from the Salters Institute.
He scooped the amazing accolade after being ranked in the top five or six highest marked pupils in the country in the summer 2022 OCR B Salters Chemistry exams.
Madeline Robinson, head of Chemistry at the college, said: “We are extremely proud to see Nathan’s work recognised in this way.
“Throughout its history, the Salters Institutes' awards have recognised and supported talent and achievements and Nathan richly deserves his success.
“Throughout his studies was always helping out other students and asking insightful questions from outside the syllabus.”
Nathan also previously won the educational institution’s in-house College Academic Achievement Award, as well as Department Awards for Chemistry and Mathematics.
Paying tribute to his teachers, he said: “I hope you know how much of a positive impact you have on so many students passing through the chemistry department.
“I always felt like I could ask for help and there was plenty of support to help me achieve my best.”
