TWO lorries collided causing traffic chaos during rush hour this morning.

The Colchester-bound A12 was closed between Marks Tey and Stanway due to the incident at about 2.15am.

The road has since reopened but heavy traffic remains on the Colchester-bound A120 at Marks Tey as motorists attempt to join the major route.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to a collision on the northbound A12 at Marks Tey shortly after 2.15am this morning, Monday 9 January 2023.

"It was reported that the collision had involved two HGVs and the road had been blocked. Thankfully, there were no reports of injury.

"A road closure was then put in place so the incident could be dealt with, and the vehicles recovered.

"That closure remained in place until shortly after 7am."

A statement from Essex County Council’s travel department said: “A12 Northbound CLOSED between J25 (A120/Marks Tey) and J26 due to an accident involving two lorries. Traffic queuing back past J25.”

It comes as road improvement works on the A12 between Marks Tey and Spring Lane, Colchester, continue to cause delays.
