A NEW convenience store has opened in Mersea Road after the shop previously closed for refurbishments.

The former McColl’s convenience store has now been replaced by a Morrisons Daily, which opened on Friday, December 2.

It is open from as early as 5.30am from Monday to Saturday, and closes at 11pm.

On Sundays, it is open from 7am until 11pm.

The ribbon was cut by Colchester mayor Tim Yong, alongside the Labour councillor for Berechurch ward Dave Harris.

Mr Harris said: “Many of my neighbours and constituents use the post office contained in this store – it as a well thought of a popular convenience store already, but the excitement of first day of opening was great to see.

“It is wonderful to have the first Morrisons Daily here in Mersea Road.

“The managers of Morrisons were on site to meet myself and Mayor and are looking forward to being part of the community here.

“Looking round store it looks and feels great – it’s a brilliant investment in Colchester city from Morrisons.”

As well the outside of the store being rebranded, major renovations also took place inside, including new fridges, freezers, and shelving units.
