SHOPPERS heading into Colchester will be able to benefit from free Park and Ride services from tomorrow, with the chance to pick up a free Christmas shopping bag too.

The new scheme will see Essex County Council offer residents the chance to utilise the Park and Ride at no cost, after 12pm noon, on every Saturday in the month of December.

The offer includes Christmas Eve on Saturday, December 24, as well as Saturday, December 31, allow Colchester residents to access the city for free on New Year’s Eve.

Councillor Lee Scott, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Sustainability, said: “This is a wonderful time of year, we wanted to do something to help people and give a boost to our valued shops and traders in our city centres.

“It’s a win-win situation, as using Park and Ride services also cuts down the number of cars in our city centres, which cuts traffic queues and emissions and improves the environment.

“We hope this makes your festive shopping a pleasurable and exciting experience.”
