THE courts have been busy this month as judges continue to rattle through a challenging backlog of criminal cases.

Among those jailed in November include a "family man" who drove the wrong way down the A12.

Another criminal has been put behind bars for keeping his former partner as a prisoner in her own home.

Here’s a round-up of some of the high profile cases which have resulted in imprisonment this month.

A MAN who downloaded “horrific" images of babies and toddlers being sexually abused has been jailed for six years.

Gregory Taylor, 35, who has a long history of flouting driving bans, fled police at speeds of up to 110mph in a BMW.

The driver, Taylor, who had two passengers, collided with the side of a police vehicle blocking his path before making off at speed towards the A12.

During the ensuing chase, Taylor, of Willow Walk, Tiptree, rocketed along the A12, undertaking vehicles at 110mph and overtaking cars by mounting a grass verge.

He admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop to give his details following an accident, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He admitted a further 13 charges in relation to driving offences committed on four separate occasions this year, including four counts of driving whilst disqualified, four counts of driving without insurance, two counts of careless driving, two counts of drug driving and one count of possessing cannabis.

He was sentenced to two years imprisonment.

THIS is the face of a man who bombarded his former partner with hundreds of messages and kept her prisoner in her home.

Ashley Norman had only been in a relationship with the woman for five weeks when she ended it in May after he bombarded her with more than 70 texts when she told him she wanted to spend time with her children instead of him, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Norman didn’t accept the relationship was over and repeatedly called and texted the woman and on May 22 she had agreed to let him go home with her after seeing him in a pub in Colchester, said Gareth Hughes, prosecuting.

When they got back to her house Norman took her mobile phone and when she tried to get out of the front door she found it was locked and the key had gone.

She then went to the back door but Norman had blocked her path and refused to let her leave, said Mr Hughes.

The woman had then gone upstairs and tried to get out of a window but Norman had grabbed her and pulled her to the floor where he held her by the throat with one of his hands.

She eventually managed to climb out of a window and go to a neighbour’s house after biting Norman’s arm.

Norman, 37, of Gorse Walk, Colchester, admitted falsely imprisoning the woman in May, assaulting her by beating and putting her in fear of violence by harassment.

In addition to being jailed for 46 months, he was banned from contacting the woman for seven years.
