AN estate agency boss has helped raise a quarter of a millions pounds for charity after taking part in a testing endurance cycle challenge.

Nicki Treffers, marketing and business director at Beresfords, which has branches in Colchester, Braintree and Maldon, has completed a 568km bike ride across Botswana.

She took part in The Elephant Highway Cycle in aid of Norwood, which supports more than 2,500 vulnerable people and children with learning disabilities and autism.

The charity delivers a wide range of services from residential and supported living to occupational therapy, language therapy and psychotherapy.

Over a five-day period Nicki, alongside 49 other fundraisers, cycled in 38-degree temperatures and faced 20km winds and storms, early starts and camping in the wild.

They travelled the long road from the safari capital of Maun to Kasane on the edge of the Chobe River and National Park, collectively raising an incredible £250,000.

Proud, but slightly achy, Nicki said taking part in the challenge was extremely difficult in places, but incredibly rewarding.

She said: “After attending a Norwood property event, I was touched and inspired by the charity and the fantastic work they do to help so many.

“Each year Norwood supports more 2,500 people from children and families facing challenges due to educational needs, mental health or severe wellbeing issues.

“I decided to help make a difference by taking part in the challenge, which was tough and mentally testing but I wanted to really push myself out of my comfort zone.

“I’m so pleased I did, although it was often uncomfortable it was an amazing experience and so rewarding.”

Nicki, who initially set out to raise £2,600, has already smashed her personal target, generating more than £4,600 in donations.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far and supported me to help raise money for such a wonderful cause,” she said.
