STUDENTS were “mesmerised” after being treated to a professional performance of an epic fairy-tale ahead of its opening night at a Colchester theatre this weekend.

Actors from the Chronicles of Atom and Luna, described as an “other-worldly adventure for ages 7 to 107”, visited Wix and Wrabness Primary School.

The story draws on classic fairy tales such as Hansel and Gretel but also nods to more contemporary mythical stories for young people like Harry Potter.

It follows twins Atom and Luna as they venture into the deep, dark wood to find Old Mother Redbeard in order to save their larger-than-life visitor, Iffly Sney.

Vanessa Lindsay, deputy headteacher and arts and culture lead at Wix and Wrabness Primary School, said: “Creative teaching and learning is at the heart of what we.

“Our children have been enjoying creative English sessions inspired by this wonderful tale, so were thrilled to witness the performance.

“The play’s use of simple sets, puppetry and lighting added a whole new dimension and further inspiration for our children.”

The performance also proved a hit with teacher Sharon Shepherd.

She added: “My class are loving this project and were absolutely mesmerised by the magical performance they saw today.”

The Chronicles of Atom and Luna will be staged at the Mercury Theatre this Saturday and Sunday.
