A POPULAR burger restaurant is to receive a facelift after plans for its Colchester High Street site were approved.

Five Guys has been given the green light to install a new projecting sign advertising its brand name on the shopfront.

The 1.4m sq sign will project the burger specialist’s name in its iconic red and white style.

It comes after planning bosses at Colchester Council approved the proposal.

However, Five Guys was told “glare and dazzle” must not distract motorists using the High Street.

Five Guys was founded in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia, by couple Janie and Jerry Murrell, who named the restaurant after their five sons.

The chain first expanded to the UK in 2013.

Five Guys is famous for offering a high-end burger and hot dog takeaway service.

It boasts 250,000 possible topping combinations and 1,000 mix-in milkshake choices.
