A MERSEA music maestro turned recording studio whizz will take audience members inside the tour bus during a special evening at a city centre venue.

Jay Stapley will stage his eagerly-awaited I Was A Teenage Session Guitarist show at Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street, on November 18.

During the show, “local celebrity” Jay will share his tips and tricks of the trade and also tell a few tales from his life on the road.

Throughout the rocker’s career, which spans nearly four decades, he has performed with artist such as Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield, Suede and Scott Walker.

He has also shared stages with everyone from Slim Whitman, David Allen Coe, Kirsty McColl, David Dundas and Westernhagen to Bucks Fizz and Dexy’s Midnight Runners.

Jay, owner of studio Driftwood in Mersea, has also been signed to a major label, written music for television and movies, and set up a label and publishing company.

A spokesman for the event said: “Jay has played gigs in venues ranging from wine-bars to football stadiums. This is a must for any would be rock star or musician.”

Tickets for the 7.30pm show, costing £10 and £8 concessions, can be booked online by visiting colchesterartscentre.com or by calling 01206 500900.
