COLCHESTER’S fifth McDonald’s restaurant has opened its doors for business.

The city’s newest fast food restaurant in Turner Rise Retail Park will remain open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

The McDonald’s has created 140 jobs with a large workforce of staff and managers taking on roles at the site off Petrolea Close.

Craig Newnes, who runs Colchester’s four other McDonald’s, said the latest restaurant had opened in a promising location.

“I am proud to have opened our Turner Rise restaurant in Colchester,” he said.

“It is a great location and we look forward to working with the community going forward with the many initiatives, charities and groups we already support.”

The restaurant was granted a premises licence for late night refreshments between 11pm and 5am during a Colchester Council meeting last week.

It means the site is allowed to operate 24/7 but a number of “heavy conditions” including quarterly meetings with residents and councillors, have been imposed.
