A DRUNK man who committed a string of offences during a period of 30 minutes while he was out celebrating his 21st birthday has been jailed.

Ipswich Crown Court heard Kyle Feeley had approached a man who was walking home along Barrack Street, Colchester, at around 8pm on January 28 and threatened to punch him if he didn’t give him money.

He had behaved as though he had a knife and had pushed the man in the chest.

Another man had been sitting in the driver’s seat of a car in the same road when Feeley put his fingers through a gap in the car window and said: “Give me some money or I’ll stab you”.

When the man refused he repeated the threat and caused £300 damage to the car window by pulling it so hard it shattered.

The victim of the attempted robbery later described being in fear of his life.

Feeley had also approached a 17-year-old youth in the same area and asked him for money.

When the youth said he didn’t have any Feeley told him to ask his mother who was waiting in a car and said: “Don’t make me stab you.”

The boy got £4 from his mother and gave it to Feeley.

Feeley also tried the front door of a house in Barrack Street which was occupied by a couple and their ten-week-old baby.

When he was challenged by the householder Feeley told him: “Go back inside or I’ll stab you” and then made off.

All the offences happened within a per of 30 minutes and no weapon was ever produced.

Feeley, of Turner Road, Tunbridge, admitted robbery, two charges of attempted robbery, attempted burglary and criminal damage.

Steven Dyble, for Feeley, said his client had been in work at the time of the offences and had £150 in his pocket and hadn’t needed money.

He told the court Feeley had been out celebrating his 21st birthday with his brother and had committed the offences while he was drunk after an argument with his brother.

Sentencing Feeley to three years in jail, Recorder Peter Guest said: “During the hours of darkness you set out on a course of conduct resulting in causing fear to at least five people.

“I’m quite sure in each case where you threatened you had a knife those who were the subject of your threats were terrified.”
