A WOMAN dressed as a protesting pooch raised eyebrows after repeatedly painting “woof” on hoarding surrounding a vacant plot of land.

In video footage sent to the Gazette, the woman is shown wearing a white dog fancy dress costume in Queen Street, Colchester.

As families and shoppers walk by, the animal activist is seen relaxingly writing on grey boarding located next to the Curzon cinema.

It is currently unknown what the reasoning behind the stunt was, but the clip depicts the woman spelling out the word “woof” over and over again.

Josh Enguell, 34, shot the bizarre moment on his mobile phone in a clip which has since been shared hundreds of times on social media.

He said: “My first thought was ‘Colchester is losing the plot’ and ‘that dog is talented’, but if it was a protest then it was not a very good one and was ridiculous.

“Just like the silly girls who threw the soup over Van Gogh’s Sunflowers at the London National gallery recently.

Gazette:

“How will something like that solve a problem especially when you are randomly attacking a well-loved and respected talented artist?

“Some people stopped and watched [the woman dressed as the dog], but oddly some people walked straight past not even acknowledging it.”

A Colchester Council spokesperson said: “Graffiti on any property without permission is illegal, unsightly and costs time and public money to investigate and clear up.

“We will not tolerate vandalism and are taking action to tackle this problem, including prosecuting anyone caught tagging public spaces.

“Making our city-to-be a cleaner, more pleasant place to live and work remains a top priority for the council.

“PS: We hope she’s better at pawtraits.”
