A WOMAN was made to feel like a “monster” after her abusive ex-boyfriend bit her on the ear and struck the side of her face in a spate of vicious attacks.

Darren Daines, 39, carried out the assaults on his former partner across four months as the duo battled to revive their failing relationship.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard Daines, of Victoria Street, Dovercourt, had been in a relationship with his victim for two years before they seperated in September 2021.

A heated row later broke out at the woman’s property on November 22, 2021, which sparked Daines, a carpenter, to launch forward and bite down on her earlobe for about 15 seconds.

Kerry Moore, prosecuting, said: “It was extremely painful and it caused her to scream and cry. She begged him to let go.”

The pair subsequently moved on and rekindled relations but in the early hours of January 8, Daines put his partner in a headlock and shoved her to the floor after another argument broke out.

“He was pushing his arm on her throat with all his weight. When he eventually let go she was called a liar and was headbutted,” added Mr Moore.

A non-molestation order was then put in place ten days later, but the duo decided to have one last go at their relationship, despite the court order.

However, bridges were finally burnt after Daines left his victim, a waitress, needing stitches after throwing a bag containing a bottle of wine and whiskey at her face on March 27.

It left her with a black eye while blood poured out of an open wound caused by the assault.

Daines later admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery and breaching a non-molestation order.

A victim impact statement read to the court detailed how the woman “felt like a monster” due to her injuries.

Anthony Abell, mitigating, said his client has already spent six-and-a-half months in prison and is working hard to better himself.

Daines’ sentence was adjourned until November 28 so a drugs rehabilitation requirements report can be prepared.
