A MOTORIST was taken to hospital after crashing into a parked car as they headed towards Colchester’s city centre.

Clingoe Hill was closed for a number of hours on Friday evening as the emergency services rushed to the scene.

The driver of the moving vehicle had become trapped in their car in St Andrew’s Avenue during the incident shortly before 7pm.

They were taken to Colchester Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It caused huge delays on the Colchester-bound carriageway as police, fire and ambulance crews all worked to resolve the situation.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to Clingoe Hill near St Andrews Avenue in Colchester shortly before 7pm on Friday following a collision involving two vehicles.

“One of the vehicles was parked at the time. The driver of the moving vehicle was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be lift-threatening.

“The road remained closed for a number of hours.”

Traffic built-up in Greenstead as motorists faced hefty waiting times as the emergency workers rushed to rescue the motorist.

A fire spokesman added: “One person was trapped but we weren’t required to do anything.”
