An ambulance, which drove away from the incident under blue lights, was not taking one of the drivers to hospital, an East of England Ambulance spokesman has confirmed.

A spokesman said: "We were called at 10.30am to a road traffic collision on the northbound A12 between junctions 21 and 22.

"Two ambulances were sent to the scene and assessed two patients who did not require transportation to hospital. The ambulances were then assigned other jobs – one to a high-priority call which required them to travel on blue lights."
