The bells were originally installed about 150 years ago and are in need of re-tuning and putting back with new fittings and working parts.

The church is trying to raise between £60,000 to £70,000 to get the bells completely refurbished.

So far, more than £11,000 has been raised through various fundraising events.

The most recent one was a quiz night held at the Earls Colne Village Hall which saw a further £533 raised.

A spokesman said: “The grounds were decorated, and many people wore spooky fancy dress.

“There was a prize for the best dressed and all children were invited to participate in a scavenger hunt around the grounds.

“We had a pumpkin patch for everyone to pick their own pumpkin.

“Along with that, we had spooky mocktails and cocktails, homemade pumpkin soup, hotdogs and gingerbread mummies all to tantalize your taste buds.

“Everyone at Colne House was so overjoyed by the outcome and response from the community and want to thank everyone for joining us to celebrate.”
