A POORLY pug who has one eye is “fighting so hard to live”, as her owner desperately tries to fund expensive life-saving treatment.

Betty, the ten-year-old pooch, who lives in Wivenhoe with Michelle Talbot, 45, and her family, is n intensive care after suddenly falling ill on October 22.

Michelle rushed her “whole world” to the emergency vet after she started vomiting every ten minutes alongside frequent bouts of bloody diarrhoea.

Betty has now been diagnosed with haemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a condition which affects the intestines and can be life-threatening, especially for small dogs.

Gazette:

Michelle is now trying to raise £5,000 to cover the costs of the around-the-clock care Betty is receiving and the treatment she will need if she is to stand a chance.

She said: “The cost for saving her life has been enormous and has already exceeded the maximum amount of money my insurance company will cover.

“I feel very uncomfortable asking for the help of others, but I am desperate to save Betty in order to reunite her with her family and friends back home.

“So far, Betty’s care has cost more than £3,000, which has included her in-patient care, tests, IV fluids and multiple medications.”

Betty entered Michelle and her family’s life when she was four, having been born and kept on a puppy farm before being abandoned when she lost her last litter of puppies.

At first she was very scared and timid, but also loving and trusting, in spite how she had been treated up until that point.

Gazette:

Michelle added: “She is now full of beans and an absolute love bug who loves nothing more than curling up with anyone and everyone and having a good snooze.

“Despite her tough start in life, she is the most loving and gentle girl, she is also goofy and silly - she is the baby of our family but has a strong will to live.

“She is fighting so hard at the moment to live and I can’t bear the thought that she might not be given the chance to get better due to financial costs.”
