Bonfire night leaves pets terrified!

With Bonfire night rapidly approaching, many pet owners in Benfleet are concerned about how to keep their pets safe and comfortable during this important night of the year.

Bonfire night has been celebrated since Guy Fawkes failed in his plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1606. However, hundreds of people do not realise the negative impact this has on pets.

Many individuals are also concerned about the negative impact of fireworks on their pets. “We love Bonfire Night; however, we are concerned that our kittens will feel unsettled,” stated Claire, a pet owner. Many dog owners have noticed a significant difference in their dog’s behaviour since the start of the firework season. Several other pet owners have also shared their concerns and are wondering how to keep their pets safe and comfortable at home. “I never let my cats out on Bonfire Night, or when fireworks are close by. I worry too much about their safety,” stated Nicola, a local primary teacher.

The RSPCA have released their campaign “#BangOutOfOrder” to limit the number of fireworks a year to protect all animals. Since its release, many people have joined this campaign and are researching different ways to limit the noise of frightful fireworks and their impact on pets.

Research has proven that 35% of dogs and 22% more cats are reported missing on Bonfire Night than any other night of the year. However, it is not just dogs and cats that are impacted by fireworks. Small pets, reptiles, snakes, and arachnids also suffer during this season, and it is important to know how to keep your pets safe and happy during this time of year.

It is vitally important that all pets are kept inside during this time for their safety and to reduce the number of pets going missing.
