STUDENTS at Essex University have marked Black History Month with a range of events.
The university's student union filled October with multiple events for people to get involved in.
Students could watch free movies made by famous black directors and writers at the student cinema.
Events were also available for all to attend throughout the month at the university's social locations with the attendees able to socialise and talk about their experiences or ask any questions.
Multiple exhibitions, reading lists and even parties at the student nightclub were specific to the theme and invited students to talk and educate themselves.
Flazzi Adekanmbi, VP of community and engagement, said: "Black History Month at Essex SU brings people together and acknowledges students of both present and past.
"We aim to take it further than one month and recognize Black History annually. This year for Black History Month, we are highlighting Black Excellence and events to showcase this, such as the open mic night.
"Students [could] perform anything they like, with no judging. It's a free and safe space for students to express themselves."
