FIRE engines were called to King Edward Quay as scores of students were evacuated from accommodation... in what turned out to be a false alarm.
The Maltings, which is one of the largest student accommodation blocks in the Hythe, was evacuated yesterday evening, with four fire engines were called to the area.
One fire engine was stationed on Haven Road, whilst another three were on standby on King Edward Quay, next to the River Colne.
Some students were waiting outside in their dressing gowns before the fire brigade left the scene at about 8.30pm.
