PRIMARY school pupils were left jumping for joy after a day celebrating the significance of maths.

Youngsters at Cherry Tree Academy, Colchester, were encouraged to come into school on Wednesday wearing their most creative maths inspired outfits.

And the children came up trumps with a range of incredible outfits including multiplication rockstars “Numbots and Numberblocks”.

Throughout the day, the pupils in Holt Drive took part in a series of number-driven activities including scavenger hunts, board games, puzzles and shape hunts.

Rory Bullivant, the school’s maths leader, said: “‘We believe that days like these are extremely important to raise the children’s awareness of the significance of maths in everyday tasks.

“We hope that by promoting maths in a real and engaging way we can continue to improve our pupils’ outcomes when they leave to go to secondary school.

“Last year, the school achieved higher than national figures in both KS1 and KS2 math SATs which is testament to events like these.”
