A DRUG dealer who hid 160 wraps of Class A drugs in his pants used benefits to fund his addiction.

Jacob Olszewski turned to running the Jerry county drug line after racking up a hefty debt from his extensive cannabis use.

But despite being found with a hunting knife when police officers wrestled the 20-year-old to the ground in Braintree, he has been spared prison.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard Olszewski became spooked when encountering officers in the town while with another man on an e-scooter at 11.30am on July 5.

Samantha Lowther, prosecuting, said he ran off, sparking a police chase.

When he was unable to scale a six-foot fence he threw a mobile phone over it.

As officers battled to restrain Olszewski in Clockhouse Way they noticed he was trying to grab a hunting knife tucked in his waistband.

Ms Lowther said during a search at the police station, 90 wraps of cocaine and 70 wraps of heroin were found concealed in his pants, with a street value of £1,600.

The mobile phone abandoned at the crime scene was later found to be the device running the Jerry drug line.

Olszewski, of Higham Hill Road, London, but currently living at his partner’s house in Braintree, admitted possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis.

The 20-year-old also admitted possession of a hunting knife.

Judge Jeremy Donne KC jailed him for two years but suspended the sentence for two years.

Steven Levy, mitigating, said Olszewski had been a cannabis user since the age of 13 and had used Universal Credit to fund his addiction.

“Eventually his use was excessive, he was using more than he could afford,” said Mr Levy.

“Having amassed this debt he was told he would need to run for the dealer.”

Olszewski was ordered to undertake 30 days of rehabilitation and will be electronically monitored for four months.

Judge Donne warned him: “If you return to drug dealing you will be discovered”.
