Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has paid tribute to Sir David Amess on the anniversary of his death.

Sir David Amess was MP for Southend West for 24 years and a south Essex MP for nearly 40 years before he was tragically murdered on October 15 2021.

Southend paid tribute to the former MP with a ceremony in Chalkwell Park today in which a tree was planted in his memory.

Boris Johnson, Keir Starmer and other MPs and councillors paid tribute to Sir David Amess.

 

Keir Starmer, Labour Party leader, also spoke about Sir David Amess and complimented him on his character.

Former home secretary Priti Patel wrote about her friendship with Sir David Amess.

 

Anna Firth, MP for Southend West, attended the ceremonial service for Sir David Amess.
