A CARE home has received its first good inspection in six years after being visited by officials from the Care Quality Commission.

Crouched Friars Residential Home in Colchester went six consecutive inspections from 2017 to 2021 where it was rated as either inadequate or requiring improvement by the regulator.

But after a visit to the premises from officials in September, recently published findings have shown it has now been upgraded to good.

It is the first time in six years the care home – which looks after 46 people, including dementia sufferers – has received a positive rating from inspectors.

The previous inspection found the care home fell short in both its safety and leadership, but the new report found it hit the mark in all metrics.

According to the report, the chef at the care home produces home cooked food which was enjoyed by residents, and relatives feel comfortable reporting any concerns.

Staff had also worked hard to reduce the number of falls experienced by residents.

As with homes across the sector, a shortage in staff has been suffered by Crouched Friars, but the manager said the use of agency staff had allowed them to pull though, and that staff were actively being recruited.
