POLICE officers have appealed for witnesses of a horrifying coach crash in Colchester to help their investigation.

The vehicle carrying young students from Colchester County High School for Girls struck a tree after mounting the Spring Lane roundabout off the A12 in Colchester yesterday.

A huge emergency service response attended the major incident at about 8.50am after it is understood the coach initially collided with a Nissan.

Essex Police has now urged anyone with any information to come forward and help detectives.

A spokesman said: “If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us”.

The road remained closed throughout the afternoon as Essex Police investigated the scene and made the area safe alongside colleagues from the fire and ambulance services.

Some of the children were taken to hospital, although none of their injuries are being treated as life-threatening or life-changing.

The driver suffered a serious leg injury, it has been confirmed.
