A CHARITY event held in aid of a little girl battling a rare disorder had to be rearranged at short notice after a hotel announced it was to close.

The family of Grace Beverton, aged five, who lives with a rare disorder which caused her life-threatening seizures when she was only five-months-old, were looking ahead to a charity fundraiser at Marks Tey Hotel on October 29.

The Hope for Grace events have raised tens of thousands of pounds to help fund a range of treatments and equipment to boost young Grace's quality of life.

But Grace's family confirmed they had been told the hotel was to shut, with another venue stepping in to save the day.

The family has been promised a full refund.

Marks Tey Hotel, a Best Western hotel in London Road, has cancelled planned events and bookings as it closes its doors to the public.

It is understood the business is being used as a "bridging hotel" - temporary accommodation run by the Home Office since the evacuation of Afghanistan in August 2021.

The organisers of Hope for Grace said the hotel had also sent emails detailing the closure to anyone who had a room booked for the event.

They said: "Thankfully the [new] venue is still in a great location close by, the price will remain the same, and the experience is going to be amazing."

The Hope for Grace charity fundraiser is supported by Tree of Hope, which is a charity which helps parents fundraise for specialist care not available on the healthcare system.
