CARE home residents have celebrated their generation on a day they coined Silver Sunday.

Residents and staff at Colonia Court Bupa Care Home, in Colchester, marked the day which celebrates the older generation coming together and connecting with the community.

The celebrations, organised by the home’s activity coordinator Dawn Kirkland, included a performance from entertainer Pete George, who sang old-time songs including jazz, country and Elvis classics.

A vintage-themed tea party was also held to make the occasion at the St Andrew’s Avenue site as memorable as possible.

93-year-old resident Ronald Harden said: “The activities made me so happy and I was so excited to dress up as a chimney sweep.

“It was also lovely to spend the afternoon singing along with my fellow residents.”

Home manager Jiji George added she hopes the event will be one of many to come.

“All of the team and residents had a brilliant time coming together for our afternoon of fun,” she said.

“Here at Colonia Court, we know how important it is for older people to continue to enjoy new activities and to connect with one other.

“We look forward to continuing to host activities that put a big smile on our residents’ faces.”
