NEW charging ports for electric vehicles have been installed at the fast-expanding Stane Retail Park in Stanway.

Five charging ports had already been put in place during an earlier phase of construction in December last year.

Further installations throughout 2022 have seen the number of charging ports rise to 20.

With the government planning to phase out the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2030, the demand for electric vehicles has increased markedly in recent years.

Stane Retail Park, which is 15 acres in size and recently added Mountain Warehouse and Superdrug to its portfolio, has electric vehicle charging points which range from 22 kilowatts to 75 kilowatts in power so they can charge vehicles at different speeds.

The owners of Stane Retail Park, Churchmanor Estates Company, selected a company called Mer – owned by Norwegian company Statkraft – to install the chargers.

A spokesman for Churchmanor Estates said: "Mer worked collaboratively with us to ensure the charging equipment was installed and working on time and with the minimum of disruption, both for the original retail park opening, and for the second phase of chargers.

"We’re very pleased with our decision to go with Mer and look forward to working with them into the future."
