A CARING father was killed after he was knocked off his motorbike and struck by oncoming traffic on the A12, an inquest has heard.

Marcin Zabicki was travelling on the Colchester-bound carriageway between Marks Tey and Stanway when he was involved in the fatal collision on September 3.

Essex Coroner’s Court heard the 46-year-old was struck from behind by another vehicle and knocked off his motorbike at about 4am.

Upon hitting the ground, Marcin, who has been described by his partner as a “loving and caring” dad, was struck by several other vehicles.

His tragic death was confirmed at the scene by paramedics shortly after 4.40am.

A post mortem examination held at Colchester Hospital determined the motorcyclist died as a result of multiple injuries he sustained in the collision.

Area coroner Michelle Brown opened the inquest today but suspended proceedings at the request of the police as they consider prosecution of a motorist.

A 26-year-old man from Ipswich arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless while unfit through drink, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, failing to stop at the scene, and drink driving remains under investigation.

Police officers believe they have identified one vehicle involved in the incident to be a silver Volkswagen Golf.

It is believed a second vehicle may also have been involved and Essex Police is continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

In a heartbreaking statement, Marcin’s partner Aneta Chojnacka said: “Our hearts are broken after losing a wonderful, loving father, partner, son and an amazing friend.

“He was such an amazing, loving, caring and hard-working person who lost his life in a such a tragic way.

“My heart is filled with sadness now you’re not here today, but memories of our happy times will never fade away.”
