A DOG has died following a large fire which ripped through an industrial unit.

Fire crews confirmed the tragic news in an update this afternoon, following the fire in Rayne Road in Braintree.

They also said the cause of the fire has been investigated.

In an update at 3pm, a spokesman for Essex Fire said: "Two crews remain on scene monitoring hotspots.

"Sadly, a dog at the scene died during the fire.

"An investigation has been carried out and the cause of the fire could not be determined."

Firefighters have been tackling the flames throughout last night and today.

Ten crews including ones from Braintree, Halstead, Witham and Colchester tackled the flames affecting the industrial unit of the external tyre store.

It has been reported that the industrial unit has been around 80 per damaged as a result of the fire.
