The launch of the new shop at the leisure park comes two weeks after the opening of Marks and Spencer, which took place the day after the closure of its High Street store.

Superdrug bosses, however, have reassured customers and employees alike they have no plans to close their city centre store.

The new branch, which has longer opening hours than its High Street counterpart, has resulted in the creation of 20 jobs.

One shopper who made the trip to the new Superdrug just shy of an hour of it was officially opened was Rebecca Georgiou, who left with a plethora of items.

She said: “It was lovely inside, there were lots of products, the staff were all lovely and everyone came and said hello to us and asked if we needed any help.

“I bought a whole load of stuff that I did not really need, even though I only went in there for one thing, but I have come out with a whole bag full.”

Jean, 88, who lives near West Mersea, headed to Superdrug to purchase a fragrance and some cosmetics pads.

“I was looking for some perfume and they all helped me very much so I was quite pleased,” she added.

“I found what I was looking for straight away and found everyone ever so helpful and overall I was very, very pleased.

“Fortunately I still drive so it does not take me long to get here, but I do not go into town anymore. The Marks and Spencer here is lovely too.”

Another shopper ended up checking out the new Superdrug after travelling to Stane Retail Park from the Suffolk to visit Marks and Spencer.

She said: “I did not actually know it was opening today.

“It has a good selection because it is bigger and the staff were really nice.”
