FIREFIGHTERS were called to a home in Manningtree after a plastic tray left on top of a kitchen hob caught fire.

Crews from Manningtree and Colchester were called to the scene in Colchester Road on Friday at about 2.20pm.

The fire was extinguished shortly after crews arrived.

A spokesman for the fire station said: “This shows the importance of working smoke alarms as a passer-by heard the alarm and called the fire brigade.”
