A NURSERY school which caters more than 50 infants has scored highly in an official report from the education inspectorate.

Holmwood House Nursery, which came into being three years ago, received its first inspection from Ofsted in July, with the results being published last month.

With children engaging positively with members of staff and able to guide their own learning, Ofsted awarded Holmwood House a good rating.

Ofsted inspectors draw a conclusion based on a range of factors, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes of staff, and the leadership offered by the senior management team.

Inspectors wrote in one section of the report: “Staff plan their activities effectively based on children's interests [and], through discussions with parents, [members of staff] focus on the different aspects of each child's learning.”

It continued: “Staff really value children's opinions and listen to them carefully [and] staff encourage children to manage their needs and to decide when they are thirsty.”

In terms of improvement, inspectors wrote staff should “give more precise instructions to children to enable them to understand clearly what they are expected to do and when.”

It is expected the nursery will be revisited by Ofsted within the next six years.
