AN eco-friendly takeaway which prides itself on tasty homemade vegan food produced with “attention to detail” has officially launched in a Colchester.

Jack New, 28, and Daryn Hazle, 40, have started up Vegalution, an environmentally conscious eatery offering everything from vegan wings to middle eastern cuisine.

Burgers, salt and pepper fries, tofu nuggets, Asian platters and much more is also on offer.

The idea behind the business was brainstormed by Jack while he was working in a vegan restaurant during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jack’s workplace was creating dishes using seitan, which is a food made from gluten, but the young entrepreneur felt he could do better.

After coming up with a business plan alongside wife Emma, he approached Daryn, who quickly became very interested in the exciting venture.

Jack said: “We started making a few different products and then we took them to other businesses to put on their menu.

“The vegan company I was working for at that point actually bought our products from the day we started.

“We now offer homemade vegan food made from scratch with lots of time, effort and passion.

“We have tried doing a selection of things such as healthy options to junk food and sharing platters for couples or groups.”

Jack and Daryn’s business is being operated out of a unit Grange Farm Road and customers can currently only place delivery and takeaway orders.

The duo, however, have big aspirations for their new company.

“We saved all the money and paid for a unit and put a kitchen inside and all the appropriate equipment,” added Jack.

“Our plans are to build a successful, green and 100 per cent vegan business.

“We are currently focusing on getting the takeaway where it needs to be but then hopefully by next year we will be doing event catering, weddings and more.

“Maybe if things work out really well we will open a restaurant, but that’s a long way away at the moment.

“I think people will enjoy the choices they don't usually get as vegans and the attention to detail that we put into our work.”
