COLCHESTER will commemorate King Charles III’s accession to the throne today with a special gun salute following the death of the Queen.
The Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, based at Colchester Garrison, will fire 21 rounds at 11am from the Colchester & East Essex Cricket Club.
The poignant event, which comes a day after a 96-gun salute in honour of Her Majesty, will mark the proclamation of the country’s new King.
The regiment, also known as the Airbourne Gunners, is equipped with L118 105mm Light Guns and is trained to provide offensive fire support to 16 Air Assault Brigade.
