POPULAR city centre entertainment venues have cancelled this weekend’s events out of respect to Her Majesty the Queen following her death.

Three Wise Monkeys, in High Street, Colchester, was scheduled to stage its House of Stand Up night and tribute act Broadway Clash tonight and tomorrow.

However, bosses have decided to pull both of the shows from their programme in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 last night.

A spokesman for Three Wise Monkeys said: “Due to the saddening news regarding Her Majesty The Queen we have decided to cancel our live events this weekend. U

“Unfortunately our comedy tonight and the Broadway Clash will no longer go ahead. We would like to send our deepest condolences to the whole of the Royal Family.”

Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street, has also followed suit, cancelling Jessica Fostekew, the Choc 'N' Gilly Reunion, and the Vinyl Sessions.

A spokesman said: "As a mark of respect to our monarch and the community, Colchester Arts Centre will be closed for the weekend to allow for mourning and reflection on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

"We hope to reschedule all events and will be in touch with all ticket holders in due course. Further updates will be available on our website."

Coda, in High Street, on the other hand, will remain open, with the Meffs listed to play this evening, and the Mercury Theatre will continue on with its production of Fame.
