CONCERNS have been expressed after vandals wreaked havoc again.

Four incidents of racist, sexist graffiti have been plastered over the bus shelter in Gosbecks Road, Colchester, where panes of glass have also been smashed.

Now calls are being made for action to be taken to deter the vandals.

Councillor Dave Harris is in the midst of repairing the well used bus shelter whilst considering future options to prevent further abusive graffiti.

He is currently working with JcDecaux, the bus shelter's owners, to come up with a way to tackle vandalism.

Mr Harris and JcDecaux are considering applying an anti-graffiti lacquer, which will allow either residents, or the council, to simply wipe away graffiti if the vandals strike again.

The second option currently being considered, is painting a mural of something appealing to the community across the shelter acting as a deterrent to vandals.

Mr Harris has pitched both options to JcDecaux and is currently awaiting their verdict.

Mr Harris said: “It is antisocial behaviour if it’s in the wrong place or discriminatory language.

"It’s antisocial vandalism, to deface community assets in such a way.”
